Vertiv EXM Three-Phase UPS Canada — Service, Repair & Batteries

Vertiv EXM three-phase UPS service across Canada — battery cabinet replacement, ECO-mode tuning, lithium-ion support. Current-generation NXC replacement.

Vertiv EXM three-phase UPS service across Canada — battery cabinet replacement, ECO-mode tuning, lithium-ion battery support, capacity scaling and parallel-system commissioning. The Vertiv EXM is the current-generation three-phase platform that supersedes Liebert NXC for new builds and major refreshes in Canadian enterprise data centres. 10 to 200 kVA in a single chassis, optional lithium-ion battery cabinets, ECO-mode efficiency and modern remote monitoring — EXM is what Canadian buyers deploy today when an aging NX or NXC reaches end of service.

Vertiv EXM lineage and positioning

The EXM is the latest step in the long Liebert three-phase lineage — Liebert NX → Liebert NXC → Vertiv EXM. Each generation carried the same operational footprint and the same battery-and-bypass philosophy, with incremental improvements in efficiency, controls and management. EXM is where the curve added ECO mode (95-plus percent online efficiency, near-99 percent in ECO at typical loads), full Vertiv RDU101 remote monitoring, and factory-supported lithium-ion battery cabinets. New three-phase deployments in Canadian data centres now ship as EXM almost without exception — and the NXC-to-EXM migration is the most common three-phase refresh project we plan.

Vertiv EXM capacities we service

  • Vertiv EXM 10–30 kVA — entry three-phase, small data rooms, hospital secondary essential-electrical, edge POPs.
  • Vertiv EXM 40–80 kVA — mid-range enterprise, regional data centres, financial-services back-office.
  • Vertiv EXM 100–160 kVA — enterprise primary protection, paralleled-cabinet common.
  • Vertiv EXM 200 kVA — top of the EXM range, large enterprise and hyperscale-adjacent deployments.
  • Vertiv EXM lithium-ion battery cabinets — eight to ten year service life, smaller footprint than sealed-lead-acid string equivalents.
  • Vertiv EXM VRLA battery cabinets — traditional sealed lead-acid, three to five year service life, lower up-front cost.

What we service on the Vertiv EXM

Battery cabinet replacement — VRLA and lithium-ion

EXM customers run two distinct battery chemistries depending on the deployment economics. Sealed-lead-acid (VRLA) strings remain common for cost-sensitive deployments — three-to-five year service life, established disposal pathway, lower up-front cost. Lithium-ion cabinets are increasingly chosen for higher-tier deployments — eight-to-ten year service life, smaller and lighter footprint, lower total cost over the equipment lifetime. We replace both chemistries on schedule and convert customers between chemistries where the room and load profile support it.

ECO-mode commissioning and tuning

EXM ECO mode delivers near-99 percent efficiency at typical load by bypassing the rectifier and inverter during clean-utility periods, with sub-cycle transfer back to online double-conversion on disturbance. Whether a customer should run ECO depends on the utility quality, the sensitivity of the load and the customer’s risk tolerance. We commission and tune ECO-mode setpoints — voltage and frequency tolerance bands, transfer thresholds, alarm levels — based on the actual utility profile at the customer site, measured over a representative period.

Capacitor service and main-board work

EXM DC-bus and AC-output capacitors are scheduled-replacement items, typically every seven to ten years preventively. We inspect during PM visits and replace before failure. Main-board faults are diagnosed on-site with Vertiv factory technical support engaged where the symptom is non-trivial.

Parallel-system commissioning

EXM systems are commonly paralleled for capacity and redundancy in Canadian Tier-1 financial and Tier III data centre environments. Adding a cabinet to an existing parallel line-up, validating load-share balance, verifying static-bypass synchronization, and confirming redundancy after a maintenance event all require EXM-specific commissioning expertise.

RDU101 and remote monitoring integration

The current Vertiv RDU101 communication card on EXM supports SNMPv3, Modbus TCP, BACnet IP, and direct integration with Vertiv Trellis DCIM. We configure cards, set up secure SNMP trap destinations, integrate with customer NMS or DCIM platforms, and validate alarm-routing through to the appropriate on-call rotation.

Common deployment contexts

  • New-build enterprise data centres — Canadian colocation primary protection, private-cloud infrastructure, multi-tenant data halls.
  • NXC refresh projects — replacing end-of-service Liebert NXC with EXM in the same room footprint.
  • Tier-1 financial back-office — bank data centres, payment-processing infrastructure, brokerage-system continuity.
  • Federal and provincial primary IT — Shared Services Canada new builds, provincial-IT-corporation modernization projects.
  • Healthcare primary essential-electrical — large-hospital primary UPS, Health-Authority centralized data centres.
  • Telecommunications MSC — mobile-switching-centre new builds, regional ISP head-end protection.

NXC-to-EXM migration projects

The most common EXM project we plan in Canada is the replacement of an aging Liebert NXC with a current-generation EXM in the same room footprint. The transition keeps the operational pattern the customer’s team already knows — the same modular battery cabinets, the same paralleled redundancy model, the same family of management cards — while delivering ECO-mode efficiency gains and (where elected) the lithium-ion battery upgrade. We plan these migrations with phased commissioning that keeps the existing NXC under load until the new EXM is fully commissioned and accepted, then transfer the load and decommission the NXC in a planned window.
