The Liebert PSI is the line-interactive workhorse of Canadian branch offices, hospital patient-monitoring rooms, retail back-of-house and small server closets. Vertiv inherited the Liebert PSI line when it acquired the brand from Emerson Network Power, and tens of thousands of PSI units remain under load coast to coast — many past factory end-of-service. We keep them running, and when the chassis itself is overdue we migrate the rack to the current-generation Vertiv ITA platform.

What we service on the Liebert PSI

Battery pack replacement

The most common service call on the PSI is the orange Replace Battery indicator after three to five years of duty. PSI battery packs are sealed lead-acid (typically 12 V 7 Ah or 12 V 9 Ah cells in pairs or quads depending on model). Higher ambient temperatures in retail back-of-house and equipment closets shorten the service life — we routinely see three-year replacement cycles in poorly ventilated rooms and five-year cycles in conditioned space.

IntelliSlot communication-card support

Liebert PSI units accept IntelliSlot Web/SNMP cards (IS-WEBCARD, IS-UNITY, IS-RELAY) for network management, graceful-shutdown integration with VMware and Hyper-V, and dry-contact alarm relay to a building-management system. We configure, replace and firmware-update these cards on-site or remotely.

On-site repair

Common PSI faults we resolve: persistent Replace Battery alarm after a battery swap (requires calibration cycle), buzzer faults, output relay failure on transfer to battery, communication-card lockup, and AVR boost/buck circuit failures. Where the failure is non-economical to repair on an end-of-life unit, we plan migration to Vertiv ITA in the same rack space.

Preventive maintenance

Annual visits include load test, battery internal-impedance check, output-waveform inspection, communication-card health, and a written report for facility audit files. For multi-site rollouts — bank branches, retail chains, regional clinics — we schedule rolling PM with a single point of contact.

Migration path — Liebert PSI 3-1500 → Vertiv ITA

Vertiv has retired the original PSI 3-1500 from factory production and the current-generation replacement is the Vertiv ITA. The ITA fits the same 2U rack footprint, offers an optional lithium-ion battery cabinet that extends service intervals from three-to-five years out to eight-to-ten, and provides current SNMP card support. Where you have a fleet of aging PSI units approaching end-of-service, a phased ITA refresh is the standard modernization plan.
